Individual Counselling
There are times in our lives when the challenges – be they relational, identity, school, or work – begin to overwhelm the ways that we have learnt to cope. It is like the dam that keeps chaos at bay starts to falter and we feel the impact in our relationships, our feelings, and our basic ability to function. These moments have a tendency to stir up the chaos of old traumas, new anxieties, resentments too long ignored.

Though disruptive, and at times frightening, these challenges can also be opportunities to heal and grow. And growth is not easy; it is at times excruciatingly painful. In individual counselling we look together at how best to foster healing, growth, and walk toward the life that wants to be lived in you.
Family Counselling
In families, and in all relationships, we tend to develop patterns: predictable ways that we interact with one another. While these patterns can provide a sense of stability and security, they can also, at times, leave people feeling stuck and misunderstood.

One of the more difficult tensions in families is how its members can both be authentic AND stay connected to one another. This tension comes to the fore when individual family members are going through significant growth and change. I work with families to help navigate these tensions and transitions.
Christian Counselling
“Christian counselling” can mean different things to different people. For some, it is simply to receive counselling from a therapist with Christian commitments. For others, it means the deliberate inclusion of prayer, Scripture, and spiritual exercises in service of growth and healing. For me, most essentially it means that I integrate Christian spirituality into my view of persons.

This religious tradition informs my attempt to answer: what is the basis of a person’s immense worth? What tends to go wrong? And what does change look like? I am likewise guided and informed by the best of psychological theories and my training as a Registered Clinical Counsellor.
I am happy to explicitly include a spiritual focus into counselling sessions to the extent that is comfortable for each client. This can be discussed during our 15 minute pre-therapy conversation.

“What you see makes all the difference”
– Gordan Neufeld
Ideas matter. Our actions and reactions always reflect our perceptions: the way that we make sense of our world, our relationships and ourselves. These perceptions and beliefs, though important, often go unnoticed.

A father, for example, labels a child’s behavior as “defiant,” unaware of the world of assumptions behind this label. This label then informs the corrective action that he deems fit to ‘fix the problem.’
I offer presentations to educators, organizations, churches, and other groups where we explore our implicit beliefs, bring them into awareness, and look anew at the way in which we ‘see.’
